Translate sensations into clay
My work begins with the experience of landscapes.
I am interested not only in what we see, but in what we experience through them: a sense of scale, a movement, a texture, a light, a tension, and the impressions that remain in memory.
Rather than reproducing their image, I translate these sensations into clay through relief, rhythm, surface and gesture.
Working primarily with stoneware, I allow the material to retain the marks of making and the transformations of fire. Each work becomes a new territory, shaped somewhere between the landscape experienced and what remains of it.
